How have I lost 40+ lbs and counting?

I have had a few messages recently asking me how I have been losing the weight. This journey has been a long one. My 98098098th attempt to lose weight began (again) back in September of 2018 (265 lbs) but the bulk of the pounds have came off between June of 2019 and today.

While weightloss is not always so hard and fast and every body will be different in what works for them – I have compiled a list of things that have worked for me thus far.

πŸ’–

So….

How have I lost 40 pounds and still counting?

How did I battle and overcome a chronic binge eating and restriction disorder?

πŸ’–

How have I flipped the switch on my previously slow as molasses metabolism?

πŸ’–
How have I been lowering and stabilizing my wacky blood glucose levels without medication??

πŸ’–

Starvation diet? No….. daily boot camps and sweat sessions? No…. Mega calorie restriction? No….

πŸ’–

It’s doing the following 90 percent of the time or more

πŸ’–

I will tell you how in the simplest way I know..

πŸ’–

Change your mindset πŸ€― Probably the most complicated thing for me but the most beneficial in terms of overall health, wellness and vitality.

πŸ’–

Challenge yourself – if you read back throughout my blog I have kept things fresh and interesting by putting myself through a series of challenges which taught me more about nutrition, the benefits of raw fruits and veggies and more. It kept things fun and interesting for me and I will continue to try out different challenges while my weight loss journey continues.

πŸ’–

EAT CARBS…nourish yourself…. All fruits, all vegetables including the starchy kind!!! – Lots of potatos, oats, beans, rice, legumes some nuts… Load up on what we were born to eat!! It’s the most satisfying way to live.

πŸ’–

Cook at home, from scratch. Try new recipes.

πŸ’–

Achieve Healthy hormone balance. Test don’t guess for potential hormone imbalances and nutritional deficiencies. Healthy fats have a place at the table and are necessary especially when you are dealing with hormonal issues. You have to find the ones and the amount that work best for your body. Nobody can tell you that except for your body! I personally have found that limiting or eliminating animal products has worked the best for my body – but you need to find what works the best for you!

πŸ’–

Walk every day

πŸ’–

Get outside every day

πŸ’–

Consistency. Try and try again every day

πŸ’–

Trust your gut. Also known as your intuition. Do what feels right and good.

By doing everything above I have gained self esteem, self confidence, new perspective, developed new interests and passions and overall I feel like a lighter more free version of myself.

I look forward to continuing on this journey of self discovery.

Medical Medium Recipe Challenge – October 20 – Pumpkin Pie Smoothie

Despite the unusually warm weather for this time of month (20 degrees today!) I was craving something “fall-ish” due to the beautiful scenery and colours I have been witnessing lately. Nothing better than the taste of pumpkin during the Autumn months.

Thankfully Medical Medium has a recipe for just about every taste and I was excited to find a Pumpkin pie smoothie recipe over on his blog!

Image may contain: drink and food

Ingredients: Banana, pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, almond milk, dates

Banana: One of the most nutritional and healing fruits readily available today. They are 76 percent water and full of vitamin C, B6, potassium, copper and manganese. They are a great electrolyte food and good for busy people on the run. They are anti viral and anti fungal . They are a great food choice for those suffering from chronic illness. They are a great food for lowering blood pressure. According to the medical medium ” Bananas should be ripe when eaten which means the peel should be lightly speckled and the fruit has a sweet, creamy taste. Unripe bananas can cause constipation and other adverse reactions”

Pumpkin: According to Medical Medium “Pumpkin is packed with antioxidants such as vitamins A, C, E, beta-carotene, and zea-xanthin which can help prevent age-related macular disease. Pumpkin is also a rich source of B-vitamins such as folates, niacin, thiamin, and pantothenic acid and minerals like calcium, potassium, and phosphorus.

It is an excellent food for aiding weight loss and for reducing cholesterol. The high amount of phytonutrients in pumpkin have been shown to help prevent the risk of cancers, particularly mouth, lung, and colon cancer. Pumpkin also contains several anti-aging benefits and the antioxidants help to keep skin wrinkle-free and radiating a healthy glow.

It also contains immune-boosting properties which can help the body stay strong and ward off common colds and flus that may be going around. Pumpkin is excellent way to replenish and restore the body after a workout as it is high in potassium which helps to restore the body’s balance of electrolytes after exercise and keeps muscles functioning at their best.Β “

Cinnamon: According to the Medical Medium: Cinnamon has been used for healing and medicinally throughout history. It has the highest antioxidant strength of all the food sources and is several hundreds more potent than any fruit or vegetable. Cinnamon is a great source of vitamins A and B-complex and minerals such as chromium, iron, zinc, and calcium.Β  It is particularly good for helping diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, flatulence, and arthritis. Cinnamon is known to help prevent and shorten the duration of the flu as well to eliminate congestion and mucus from the body. It is also very beneficial for lowering cholesterol and to help regulate blood sugar. It is known to help increase circulation and contains anti-clotting compounds which makes it highly beneficial for helping to prevent strokes and coronary artery disease.Β  It is also very good for reducing inflammation in the body making it helpful for people with autoimmune disorders such as fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Cinnamon also has the amazing ability to stop yeast infections, candida, and menstrual cramps. Cinnamon has anti-cancer properties and has been known to reduce the growth of leukemia and lymphoma cancer cells within the body. It is commonly used in gum and dental treatments due to its pain relieving and antiseptic properties.Β

Dates: Dates are an ideal food for improved energy and brain function. They are a good source of vitamin A & B-complex and they are rich in minerals such as iron, calcium, manganese, copper, and potassium. Dates are known to help build bone and muscle strength and have been used for thousands of years by athletes to improve physical endurance, agility, and stamina.

Dates contain anti-inflammatory and anti-infective properties which make it an excellent food for those who suffer with chronic infections and auto-immune disorders. They also help to control heart rate and blood pressure which offers protection against strokes and coronary heart diseases. Dates contain an easily digestible fiber that has been found to help prevent colon, prostate, lung, endometrial, breast, and pancreatic cancers. They are also known to help lower LDL (bad) cholesterol, relieve constipation, improve anemia, and prevent macular degeneration.

10 out of 10 for looks and flavour! This hit the spot and I will definitely be making it again soon πŸ™‚
