Medical Medium Recipe Challenge – October 9 – Banana Milkshake

Good morning!

Woke up craving something sweet – so I turned to The Medical Medium Life Changing Foods book and scoped out the smoothie situation. I landed on the perfect option: “Banana Milkshake” Yes please! Reliving my child hood…without all of the nasty ingredients we used back then lol

This recipe is simple, nourishing and full of amazing potassium and electrolytes to kick off your day in the right direction.

Ingredients used: Raw bananas, frozen bananas, cinnamon, vanilla, coconut water, dates

Bananas: One of the most nutritional and healing fruits readily available today. They are 76 percent water and full of vitamin C, B6, potassium, copper and manganese. They are a great electrolyte food and good for busy people on the run. They are anti viral and anti fungal . They are a great food choice for those suffering from chronic illness. They are a great food for lowering blood pressure. According to the medical medium ” Bananas should be ripe when eaten which means the peel should be lightly speckled and the fruit has a sweet, creamy taste. Unripe bananas can cause constipation and other adverse reactions”

Coconut Water: According to the medical medium “Coconut water is a highly nutritious, cleansing, and refreshing juice that is lightly sweet and packed with B-complex vitamins and minerals such as calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, zinc, and manganese. Coconut water is one of the highest sources of electrolytes known. It’s a natural isotonic beverage with the same level of electrolytic balance that we have in our blood. In our body, plasma is what makes up 55% of human blood and coconut water is identical to human plasma, which makes it a universal donor. 

Some claim that drinking coconut water gives a person an instant blood transfusion. During the Pacific War of 1941-1945, both sides in the conflict regularly used coconut water-siphoned directly from the nut-to give emergency plasma transfusions to wounded soldiers. Coconut water has also shown significant anti-cancer, anti-thrombotic, and anti-aging benefits due to its high cytokinin content. It’s bioactive enzymes help to significantly support digestion and metabolism. 

Coconut water is low in calories and is an excellent weight loss drink. Dates: Dates are an ideal food for improved energy and brain function. They are a good source of vitamin A & B-complex and they are rich in minerals such as iron, calcium, manganese, copper, and potassium. Dates are known to help build bone and muscle strength and have been used for thousands of years by athletes to improve physical endurance, agility, and stamina.

Dates contain anti-inflammatory and anti-infective properties which make it an excellent food for those who suffer with chronic infections and auto-immune disorders. They also help to control heart rate and blood pressure which offers protection against strokes and coronary heart diseases. Dates contain an easily digestible fiber that has been found to help prevent colon, prostate, lung, endometrial, breast, and pancreatic cancers. They are also known to help lower LDL (bad) cholesterol, relieve constipation, improve anemia, and prevent macular degeneration.

Cinnamon: According to the Medical Medium: Cinnamon has been used for healing and medicinally throughout history. Cinnamon is a great source of vitamins A and B-complex and minerals such as chromium, iron, zinc, and calcium.  It is particularly good for helping diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, flatulence, and arthritis. Cinnamon has anti-cancer properties and has been known to reduce the growth of leukemia and lymphoma cancer cells within the body. It is commonly used in gum and dental treatments due to its pain relieving and antiseptic properties.

I give this delightful recipe a solid 7 out of 10. I added some ice to cool everything down after the fact…as it was a bit warm for my liking at first. Still a nice healthy sweet treat to start the day!
