Tis the season…for a new challenge?

Happy Sunday everyone!

I have felt like I have just been coasting along lately and needing something to challenge myself with. I am proud of my accomplishments thus far but still have a long ways to go. I have also been plateaued at 225 which tells me my body is ready for new things to shake it up a little!

I am always wanting to experience and learn new things that will ultimately help me to feel like my best self as well as continuing my healing and weightloss goals.

The holiday season is an interesting one – as fun as everything is…it’s also filled with temptation and I find myself slipping into old ways, indulging in one to many treats (even IF they are dairy free or plant based, vegan etc.)

It always has been and always will be a challenge for the ex binge eater in me to ignore the calls and that little voice I hear in my head to indulge, indulge and indulge again and then to feel bad about it. I don’t wish to do either …binge eat…or feel bad about it. I also don’t want to over indulge in the foods that make my system feel bad (dairy, meat, eggs, too many processed foods). I’d rather continue to nourish myself with whole, plant foods and stick to the day to day routines that agree with my body and emotions. Although I’m thankful so many alternatives are on the market today so that we can in fact have a treat every once and again. I cannot be indulging every day over the course of two months which I find so many people do throughout the holidays? Just an observation, mind you…

For me, consistency, a positive mindset and keeping focused on good whole foods has been the corner stone since day one of this journey and I can’t lose sight of that. I will continue to do what works for me and my body.

Therefore…

I have put together 3 new challenges to see me through to the end of January. The holiday months is a great time to flip the switch and to dive in to keep the motivation high. This is my Raw Food Reset!!

I first will start with an easy peasy 5 day raw food challenge to finish off November, starting tomorrow, November 25.

Near the beginning of December I will see through a 10 day raw food challenge from December 2 to December 11th . Which will semi prepare me for January (after new years/new years day) when I will take part in The Medical Medium 28 day raw food healing program.

As you can see, there are lots of gaps and days in between these challenges to still allow for the occasional (key word) seasonal treats and my fair share of cooked potato and other cooked plant based foods which I love so much 🤣✌️

I have chosen raw food challenges because I seemed to feel my best when I was taking part in the Medical Medium 3.6.9 liver cleanse which was also also mostly raw foods. I want to experience more of those feelings and see how my body is able to heal while doing so.

If anyone wants to join in and support one another through any of these times let me know! I will of course be documenting all of it on various social media platforms and right here on the blog much to the dismay of some, I’m sure 😉

Medical Medium Recipe Challenge – October 31- Sweet Potato Soup

Today was the last day of my October Medical Medium Recipe Challenge!!! It was a cool, rainy, Halloween day and was welcomed. 31 days, 31 recipes 💖 Sweet potato soup today.

Image may contain: food

Such a simple. nourishing meal! I think most of MM recipes are like this 🙂

Ingredients: Sweet potato, onion, garlic, ginger

Sweet potato: According to medical medium ” Sweet potato is one of the most healing vegetables we have available to us. They help to lower blood pressure and reduce stress. They are one of the best anti-cancer foods, and can particularly help to prevent breast, colon, lung, skin, and oral cancers.

Sweet potatoes are known for being easy to digest and are very good for ulcers, inflamed colons, digestive disorders, and constipation.

And to top it all off, they taste delicious! Especially in this quick and easy healing recipe. It’s perfect for dinner, and pairs wonderfully with a big fresh salad of leafy greens, juicy bell pepper, tomato, cucumber and avocado with a squeeze of orange juice.”

Onion: Onions have an amazing array of medicinal benefits and are high in vitamin C, folate, biotin, chromium, and calcium. Onions are the richest food source of quercitin which is a potent antioxidant that has been shown to lower cholesterol, blood pressure, and triglycerides as well as help to prevent blood clots, asthma, sinus infections, bronchitis, atherosclerosis, and diabetes. They also contain powerful anti-cancer properties which have been found to help slow and reverse tumor growth within the body.

Onions are particularly beneficial for stomach, colon, prostate, breast, lung, bladder, and ovarian cancer. They contain valuable sulfur compounds that are known to significantly strengthen the immune system, brain, and nervous system. These sulfur compounds also act as a heavy metal detoxifier and can help to safely remove mercury, cadmium, arsenic, and lead from the body. Onions can help to treat colds, coughs, bacterial infections, angina, and bronchial spasms.

They can also help to stabilize blood sugar levels and provide relief to the liver when processing glucose and insulin. Onions have powerful antibacterial properties and have been shown to be able to destroy many disease causing pathogens such as E.coli and salmonella. They also act as a natural diuretic and help reduce bloating, water retention, and edema.

Onions can help purify the digestive tract and help to stop putrefactive and fermentation processes in the gastrointentinal tract. They are also known to help regrow hair as well as add volume and shine. Onions that are eaten raw provide the most nutritional benefits and are a delicious addition to salads, sandwiches, and wraps. Onions are also excellent steamed and added to soups and stews.

Garlic: Has been used medicinally since ancient times. Garlic is antiviral, antibacterial, anti fungal, anti parasitic and rich in the phytochemical allicin, a sulfur compound that prevents disease.

Ginger: According to Medical Medium ” Ginger’s antispasmodic properties come from its more than 60 trace minerals, well over 30 amino acids (many of them undiscovered), and more than 500 enzymes and coenzymes all working together to calm reactivity. And as an antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-parasitic, ginger deserves all the accolades it gets for promoting a healthy immune system. Ginger is also ideal for stress assistance, DNA reconstruction, enhancement of your body’s production of B12, and so much more. It will be 100 years before research uncovers how much ginger truly holds. “

This was a lovely meal on a cool Autumn evening. 10 out of 10 for simplicity and flavor. My husband enjoyed it as well.

That’s a wrap for my October Medical Medium recipe challenge but this won’t be the last time you hear me mention MM. Hope you all enjoyed!

Medical Medium Recipe Challenge – October 30 – Adrenal Snacks, Dates+Apples

Day 30 of my Medical Medium Recipe Challenge was a simple one. Ok so..this isn’t really a “recipe” because it’s just separate ingredients on the plate/bowl lol 🤣 but it’s been an integral part of my daily “diet” routine since June. Almost every day I have some form of this as a snack…apples with dates. Sometimes I will add in chopped celery and almond butter as well if I’m feeling sassy lol Dates have become a staple part of our grocery list. They are great on their own, in cashew creamy sauces and to sweeten smoothies or shakes naturally.

It’s critical for your adrenals/liver and balancing blood sugar to graze on healthy snacks such as this throughout the day.

Read more about the importance of adrenal health and snacks here.

Ingredients: Dates and apples

Dates:  Dates are an ideal food for improved energy and brain function. They are a good source of vitamin A & B-complex and they are rich in minerals such as iron, calcium, manganese, copper, and potassium. Dates are known to help build bone and muscle strength and have been used for thousands of years by athletes to improve physical endurance, agility, and stamina.

Apples: Sweet, delicious, so many varieties and full of immune boosting and disease preventing properties. According to Anthony Williams ” Apples are also an amazing detoxifier and contain both malic and tartaric acids that help remove impurities from the liver and gallbladder”.

Simple, sweet, nourishing and beneficial to our adrenals and liver health – 10 out 10 for me! Try an adrenal snack today, you won’t be sorry.

Hello everyone!

Time to play catch up. I apologize but time has just flown by and I let some things slip by the way side (aka posting!) lately.

We left off at October 29 of my Medical Medium October Recipe Challenge.

It was a busy day and I also had an hour long doctors appointment with my naturopath (more on that to come in the next few days!)

SO I turned to something simple – which is great about the Medical Medium. He has all sorts of recipes. Simple ones and ones that take a bit longer and are a little more in depth.

Lemon Ginger Honey Water
