Raw Challenge Fail: Intuitive Eating

You guys….

Time for some real talk and transparency.

My second raw food 10 day challenge came to a halt last week after coming down with a really nasty sore throat/cough/cold type deal. In fact I am just on the tail end of it now on December 12. It definitely has stuck around! I didn’t feel the need to go to the doctors though, as my throat didn’t really hurt to swallow – I just felt it was your typical, disgusting, cough and cold. I carried on into days 3 and 4 for my raw challenge but all I wanted was warmth. I wanted all of the warm tea, warm soup, cooked potatos, toast – anything bland and warm. Yep this is how the raw challenge prematurely ended lol

At the insistence of my husband saying I should listen to my body and “feed a cold” I decided to finish my second raw challenge early at day 5 instead of day 10. I’m a little dissapointed – not really in myself just in the fact that I didn’t see the challenge through until day 10.

But this whole intuitive healing journey I am on includes intuitive eating – eating what feels right to me and when. Learning to listen to my body ques and nourishing it to health. I wouldn’t really be on this journey without that being my main focus in all aspects of my life. So in that regard, I am staying true to myself which makes me happy.

Hope you will understand and I am very hopeful that I will be at full health for my next attempt (the Medical Medium 28 day healing cleanse) which will take place in January.

I want to at least share with you some of the yummy raw food I did have during the first 5 days last week. It wasn’t all for nothing and we keep on keeping on 🙂

Hope you are all staying warm and healthy and stress free during the busy Holiday season! Will try to post and catch up again soon. Don’t forget to follow me via instagram for day to day shares. @intuitivelyhealing 🙂

Raw Reset Challenge Day 5/5 Food Round Up!!

Happy Friday!!

We have made it to day 5 of 5 of my first raw food reset mini challenge. Feeling great and even better?? Down 5 pounds! I cannot believe I have made it to 220 pounds for a total of 45 pounds lost.

SW: 265

CW: 220

GW: Get out of the 200s!!!

I have never really made certain weight goals as I never want to set myself up for failure or disappointment however I think a main goal right now is to get out of the 200s!!!! I will get there healthfully and sustain-ably 🙂

Here are my eats for the day….No real green foods which sucks but groceries are running low and that will be a priority over the weekend.

2-3 cups of blueberries, lots of hemp and chia seeds and clementines

I love using hemp and chia seeds on my berries in the morning.
Hemp seeds are nutty and sweet and offer a high amount of omega-3 fatty acids. They also have all the essential amino acids in an easily digestible form. 3 tbsp of hemp hearts contain 10 g of protein – more than the amount of 1 boiled egg.
Chia seeds are full of important nutrients. They are a great source of omega-3 fatty acids, rich in antioxidants, and they provide fiber, iron and calcium. A 1 ounce serving contains 5.6 g of protein.

Lots of raw pumpkin and sunflower seeds
Taste-A-Like Wendys Frosty Protein Shake. Full of Sunwarrior plant based protein powder, almond milk, bananas, cacao powder, pb2 powder, water and ice
Lots of clementines and 2 apples

Also got out a 45 min walk with this one!

Starting to see my chin again. lol

I am taking the weekend off but will be back with my next 10 day raw food challenge which starts on Monday December 2. Things gonna get crazy up in here!

Wendy’s Frosty Taste-A-Like Protein Shake

Happy Fri-yay!!!

Here to share a fun recipe with you all.

I’m sure you have all had a Wendy’s chocolate frosty on an occasion or two (I know I have) But…we all know they aren’t the best for our health.

Wouldn’t you like to enjoy a protein and nutrition packed version that gives you a boost of energy instead of a sugar spike and unhealthy crash?

That’s what I have here for you today!

What you will need

  • Sunwarrior plant based protein powder ( I used vanilla but chocolate would be great too) SO IMPORTANT. This is the BEST protein powder I have ever tasted. It is not chalky, gritty nor does it have whey in it which hurts my tummy!
  • 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 cup of water (or instead of almond milk just sub 2 cups of cold water)
  • 2 tbsps of PB & Me powdered peanut butter (Low calorie, high in protein and vegan)
  • 1 tbsp of cacao powder
  • 2 small frozen bananas (ripe)
  • Ice
  • Optional add ins: pitted dates (1 or 2) cacao nibs or anything that you fancy!

Blend blend blend and enjoy!

Raw Reset Day 4/5 – High Blood Sugar & Intense Exercise

Hello everyone! Forgot to post this last night. Doh.

Can’t believe we are almost done with the first mini raw food reset challenge. Feeling great and those pesky headaches have subsided.

Heres the food round up for Thursday

Blueberries with lots of hemp and chia, kiwis and mango
Mix of pumpkin and sunflower seeds
Big ass salad bowl with spinach, broccolo slaw, pico de gallo, peppers, cucumber, homemade chashew dressing and homemade peanut sauce
Vitamin C <3
Got out a walk with Lola – it was freezing!
This tasted like a Wendys chocolate frosty. SO GOOD!! Sunwarrior protein powder, cacao powder, dried peanut butter powder (less fat, more protein), bananas, almond milk, water and ice

Had dance class last night and it was a sweaty, fast, hard class! At one point I think i stopped breathing because I was focusing on the dance so hard and it was going so fast lol

I was a little surprised to see a spike in my blood sugar after this particularly fast, hard cardio class but I have done some research on this and it’s pretty normal with ALL people (depending on your hormones, adrenals and body type).

Why does exercise sometimes raise blood sugar?

Exercise can trigger the body to release stress hormones, like adrenaline and cortisol. Adrenaline can stimulate the liver and the adrenal glands to release glucose and cortisol which makes you more resistant to insulin. Strenuous activity, like competitive sports, can trigger even more stress hormones, in which case blood glucose usually increases (at least temporarily).

In general, we know that different exercises affect us differently. And we also know that we’re all very unique, and the same exercise affects different people differently. Our blood sugar response will also depend on our level of physical fitness and personal exertion. Generally speaking, 30-40 minutes of running brings different results than an hour of cycling, swimming or even boxing. The intensity of the activity is often as important as the duration.

Nevertheless, exercise and activity are very good weapons against diabetes and they work in your favor in the medium to long-term, even if you’re struggling against those BG boosting stress hormones in the short term.

Typically, the post-exercise blood sugar spike settles down and returns to normal after an hour or two, so check again after some time if you’re able to. And the exercise itself pays dividends for much longer than that, so the tradeoff is well worth it.

My blood sugar did indeed drop back to a normal healthy level before bed time and I was relieved!

Feeling good! 45 pounds down. Hoping to be 50 pounds down by Christmas. You read it here first!

Raw Reset Day 3/5 – Sliced finger! Ouch!

Alright guys… this is gonna be a quick one. It’s hard to type with one of my fingers bandaged up. Earlier today I was making brownies for my husband and managed to slice off some of my finger nail AND the skin under it. There was so much blood and I completely lost my appetite. Thankfully I was able to stop the bleeding but it seemed like it took forever to do so.

It doesn’t look too appetizing but these are made with avocado and have a little less sugar in them than traditional brownies. I will have to share the recipe with you guys soon! I of course did not partake but if there are any left I might have to try one on the weekend lol

With that being said…here are my eats for today.

2 large kiwis, over a cup of blueberries and 2 large clementines
Raw pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds
Protein shake with sunwarrior plant based mocha protein, 2 frozen bananas, almond milk, cacao powder, 2 dates, water, ice
Pint of blackberries
2 very large apples with almond butter

No big salad bowl as like I said I lost my appetite due to seeing so much blood. I am such a big baby when it comes to these things! Brent sliced up two extra large apples and served with a big scoop of almond butter for additional fat and protein.

Besides the sliced finger I am feeling good!! See ya tomorrow.

p.s no walk today as it has been pouring all day – boo!!!
